DU raises money for injured student
Cornhole event brings in $800

Delta Upsilon's fourth cornhole tournament Saturday raised $800 for Lambda Chi member Steve Nicholas and his family.
Nicholas was hospitalized at Akron City Hospital last month after an altercation on University Avenue. The money raised at the tournament will help pay for Nicholas' health care costs.
"He was in an induced coma," said David Budy, vice president of loss prevention. "We're not sure about his condition now."
Delta Upsilon's semi-annual cornhole tournament happens twice a year, in the fall and the spring. The fall tournament's funds went to the Dylan Fitzgerald Carlton endowed scholarship.
Every year the funds from the spring tournament are put toward a specific cause that is decided upon by the chapter members. This year, the chapter chose to have its proceeds go to help Nicholas' family.
"There was a fight, and Steve ran out there to help break it up, and he got hit and hit his head on the ground and fractured his skull," said Michael Crandall, vice president of philanthropy and community service.
Delta Upsilon decided to donate all the cornhole proceeds to Nicholas's family after a prayer service held for the Lambda Chi member.
"I think our biggest thing was after it happened, all the Greeks came together and everyone felt so terrible about this happening," said Crandall.
Ten cornhole sets were set up, and teams came between 2 and 8 p.m. to play. The chapter also held a 50-50 raffle, and sold food and T-shirts at the event.
Delta Upsilon's goal was to raise $1,000.
"We pray to God that he'll be 100 percent recovered," said chapter President Justin Pierce. "We really have a mind setting of advocating the real meaning of Greek life."
