Aeronautics program to hold security seminars

The aeronautics program of the College of Technology will host two security seminars from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. today and tomorrow.
Today's seminar will be held in Room 317 of the Student Center, and tomorrow's will be held in the Governance Chambers.
Today's lecture will focus on general aviation security training for large airports. Topics of discussion will include recognizing aircraft and facilities that could be used for criminal purposes, identifying the purpose of complex access control systems and troubleshooting security plans and resources.
Tomorrow's lecture will focus on general aviation security training for first responders. The talks will include recognizing common electrical and engine controls, understanding basic proactive measures and understanding the types and uses of general aviation aircraft.
Isaac Nettey, associate dean of the College of Technology, said the lectures will be divided into discussions, movies, role-playing and quizzes. These activities are intended to get students involved in the lecture and help them retain more of the information presented.
There is no cost to attend the lectures. Each lecture is funded by the Department of Homeland Security.
