Award-winning journalist to speak in Kiva today

As part of her 40-city book tour, journalist Amy Goodman, host of the global, grassroots radio/TV hour "Democracy Now!", will speak at 3:30 p.m. today in the Kiva.
Goodman is speaking to audiences across the country about her latest book, "Standing Up to the Madness: Ordinary Heroes in Extraordinary Times," which she co-wrote with her brother David Goodman. The book offers vignettes of ordinary American people who are using the democratic system, willpower and hope to combat the current state of the nation.
The presentation, sponsored by the Kent State Anti War Committee, is free and open to the public.
Yvette Coil, a member of the Kent State Anti War Committee, said it's important for students to be aware of Goodman's message.
"Media has not been focused on informing everyone," Coil said. "Amy is saying the things not being said about activism, freedom of press and world affairs."
Kent Social Services and the Kent chapter of Food Not Bombs are accepting donations of nonperishable food items, toiletries and grocery store gift cards at the door, Coil said.
Richard Olivito from the Midwest Center for Constitutional Rights will also speak at the start of the program.
