History professors to debut new books at meet-and-greet

Three history professors will debut their new books to the public during a meet-and-greet session for students from 4 to 6 p.m. today in Room 217 of Satterfield Hall.
Rebecca Pulju, assistant professor of history, said the department has three goals in mind for hosting the book party.
"(First), to celebrate the fact we have three books coming out. It can take eight to 10 years to research, write and revise a book," Pulju said. "It is a long process, and it's exciting."
The second reason is for undergraduate history majors to get to know the faculty so they are not shy about coming in to talk, ask for a letter of recommendation or discuss what they can do with a history degree, she said.
"We want students to understand what historians do," Pulju said, "and to see the world of writing and research that isn't necessarily apparent."
Assistant professors Elizabeth Smith-Pryor, Timothy Scarnecchia and Kevin Adams will present their books to the public. Afterward, pizza will be available, and students can socialize with the professors.
Pulju said she hopes the book party will generate excitement for history majors and the History Club.
