Gmail glitch marks new mail as spam

Students experienced problems with Gmail yesterday, said Information Services officials.

Messages sent to kent.edu e-mail accounts were being forwarded to the spam box instead of the inbox, according to Jeremy Benington, senior client services representative at the Kent State Helpdesk. This poses a problem for anyone who forwards their kent.edu e-mails to a different e-mail client.

The problem has to do with Google, which hosts Kent State's mail service, rather than the university. The company was contacted, and the problem resolved yesterday evening. Students should still check their spam boxes for e-mails received during the time the mail service was malfunctioning.

Kent State switched its e-mail platform from Flashline to a service provided by Google's e-mail product, Gmail, in November.
