Women's basketball falls in MAC quarterfinals

Kent State's women's basketball team followed in the footsteps of the men's team, losing to Buffalo 66-54 this afternoon in the quarterfinals of the Mid-American Conference Tournament.
The Flashes (19-10) led 26-25 at halftime, but they shot just 33.3 percent in the second half, allowing Buffalo to take control of the game.
"We were stagnant on offense," Kent State coach Bob Lindsay said. "We really never got into a flow offensively. We didn't have that great go-to player today."
On the day, Kent State shot 35.1 percent from the field, well below their season average of 42.3 percent.
Freshman guard Jena Stutzman led the Flashes with 11 points. Senior center Anna Kowalska added 10, but she shot just 2-of-9 from the free-throw line.
As a team, the Flashes shot 8-of-17 on free throws, while the Bulls sank 24 of 30 foul shots.
For Buffalo, Jessica Fortman led the way with 20 points. Kourtney Brown scored 16 points, and Dortae Freeman added 13.
Buffalo (8-23), the sixth-seeded East team, upset Northern Illinois on Wednesday. Tomorrow, the Bulls will take on Ball State in the semifinal game.
"We were beaten by a team today who played tougher than we did, played harder than we did and I think wanted to win the game more than what we did," Lindsay said.
