The Dive joins forces with Greek members
New group hopes to disown party image

The Dive and Greek life will collaborate to create a new Greek ministry group.
"Greeks typically have a sphere of influence over the students on campus," said Brock Kertoy, senior business major and member of Tau Kappa Epsilon. "We want people to realize there are other aspects to Greek life than partying."
A meeting to establish the group was held at 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Delta Gamma sorority house.
Kertoy and Stephanie Gorbett, senior human development and family studies major and member of Alpha Xi Delta, hosted the meeting.
Kertoy said they ultimately want to create a tighter community and break down chapter and campus boundaries.
Mike Love, a staff member of The Dive, a math teacher at Kent State and an alumnus of Delta Tau Delta, had a large part in starting this group.
"We want to break barriers between The Dive and Greeks," Love said. "Greeks feel comfortable hanging out with Greeks, so this is a great way to attract people to our message."
Love said this is a less intimidating approach to religion than The Dive may be.
"Greeks also like to hang out in big groups, so this is the perfect event," Love said.
The goal is to create a place where Greeks can feel comfortable to worship and meet Greeks who have the same interests. Free pizza, desserts and drinks were provided for the Greeks who attended Tuesday's event.
Ashley Nuske, sophomore family and consumer science major and member of Delta Gamma, helped Love plan the event. She regularly attends The Dive and wanted to have the gathering at her sorority's house on Fraternity Circle.
"I thought the idea was awesome," Nuske said. "I know other Greeks that go to The Dive; now we can all be together with others who are also interested but were nervous to go to The Dive."
Bill Gray, sophomore biology major and member of Delta Tau Delta, goes to The Dive a few times a month and is very active in his fraternity.
"This is a good time to hang out with fellow Greeks while hearing an awesome message," Gray said.
