The Standing Rock Cultural Arts Center will showcase Kent State students carving ice Saturday from 1-4 p.m. in the Home and Savings Plaza at the corner of Water and Main Street. City Bank Antiques is sponsoring the event.

The "Make Mine in Ice" exhibit features the Kent State University Ice Carving Club. Artists are given a block of ice and a chainsaw and carve before a live audience.

Each sculpture is the artist's choice. In the past, sculptors have created black squirrels, hearts, Kent State letters and eagles.

The sculptures will remain on display until they melt.

All of the artists are volunteers and downtown Kent's local businesses Ray's Place and Ohio Savings Bank are also sponsors.

Anthony's Café and Stahl's Bakery will provide beverages and pastries for the event.
