Ravenna standoff ends peacefully
Separate standoff takes place in Suffield

The standoff between police and former Ravenna police chief Michael Swartout ended peacefully when he surrendered to sheriff's deputies at about 12:45 p.m. yesterday.
The standoff had lasted since Tuesday night after reports that Swartout fired shots at his adult son. He then led police on a high-speed chase that ended at his house on Lakewood Road in Ravenna Township.
Swartout resigned as the police chief in 1998 after he was charged with aggravated menacing stemming from an incident at another officer's Rootstown home when he fired shots into the air and ground at a party.
An unrelated standoff in Suffield occurred early Thursday morning. Two Suffield men were charged yesterday after an hour-and-a-half standoff with officers from four law enforcement agencies after midnight, according to the Record Courier.
David Carpenter was charged with failure to comply with a police order, and Bradley Williams was arrested on a warrant for cocaine possession and a probation violation. Police told the newspaper more charges are expected.
Officers found firearms and a methamphetamine lab at the house on the 2300 block of Martin Road.
Officers from the Brimfield Police Department could not be reached for comment.

With police chiefs like this, who needs criminals. Now if he was a good police chief then we should make criminals into police chiefs.
