College of Technology receives largest gift in university's history

Kent State's College of Technology will receive a $13.5 million software gift from Texas-based company Appropriate Technology, which will be unveiled at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec.
16 in the Student Center.
The gift, which is the largest in the university's history, includes software that will enable manufacturing technology students to help plan a product from the concept to the manufacturing phase, said John DeCola, director of advancement for the College of Technology.
DeCola said Kent State fostered a relationship with Appropriate Technology because of the university's teaching philosophy, which led to the gift from the company.
"We've had a working association in the past, and they agree on our vision for hands-on operations and training for our students," he said.
President Lester Lefton and other university members will attend the presentation of the software gift in the Student Center.
