Professor to address importance of voting

With Election Day less than a week away, some students may wonder why they should vote in this election.
Associate politics professor Thom Yantek said voting matters for reasons other than electing government officials. He will speak to students at 4:30 p.m. in the classrooms by the Stopher Hall area desk about why their votes matter.
Yantek said as long as students who are skeptical about voting show up to his lecture with an open mind, they may be more inclined to vote by the end of the discussion.
"This is the most exciting political year in maybe a lifetime," Yantek said.
Yantek said he believes voter turnout will be higher this year than in the past.
"Young people are very energized this year," he said.
He said students should attend his lecture because they will learn more about themselves and their peer group when it comes to voting and politics. He said students will learn about a likely path for the future and generational changes, and what this all means for the future.
"There is a lot of potential for something very interesting to happen," he said about this election season.
While Yantek will be speaking from a non-partisan viewpoint, he will also answer any questions students have about the candidates and the issues.
