Kent State men's basketball player Chris Singletary has been suspended indefinitely after his arrest last weekend, an athletic department press release said.

Singletary was arrested Sunday morning at his home on Olympus Drive and cited for a noise violation and resisting arrest. He pleaded not guilty to the resisting arrest charge at his arraignment yesterday, and his pretrial date has been set for 10 a.m. Oct. 10.

"While we are disappointed with Chris' actions over the weekend, he still has our support and is a valued member of our program," Director of Athletics Laing Kennedy said in a statement. "We believe that the suspension is a necessary step at this time until the issue is resolved by the judicial system."

According to the press release, Singletary is suspended from competition but can still participate in other team activities. Further action will be taken pending what happens with Singletary's case.

The suspension marks Singletary's third in the past year. He was suspended for the first two games of last season after violating university policy. He then missed a game in January after being arrested and charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated. He pleaded no contest to the charge in April.

Singletary, a junior, started 22 games for the Flashes and received honorable mention to the All-Mid-American Conference team after averaging 10.3 points and 3.2 rebounds per game.
