Kent State lost to Iowa State 48-28 tonight in a game where they fumbled the ball five times and allowed two blocked punts.

Coach Doug Martin said the Flashes made too many big mistakes to come away with a win.

"The disappointing thing for us is, we never gave ourselves a chance because of just self-destructing," Martin said.

Sophomore Eugene Jarvis scored twice in the first half, breaking a 23-yard touchdown run to open the scoring, and catching a 25-yard pass in the second quarter.

Jarvis finished the night with 139 yards rushing, averaging 5.8 on 24 attempts on the ground.

Sophomore tight end Jon Simpson and senior wide receiver Shawn Bayes also caught touchdown passes for Kent State.

Kent State's defense gave up 21 consecutive points to the Cyclones after sophomore safety Brian Lainhart forced a fumble that led to Kent State's first scoring drive.

The Flashes out gained the Cyclones in total yards 410 to 374, but Iowa State dominated in time of possession and turnovers.

Senior quarterback Julian Edelman passed for 171 yards, but gave up two costly fumbles in the game. Edelman said his offensive performance did not make up for his turnover woes.

"Two turnovers sum up my performance," Edelman said. "Like coach said, we put ourselves in the hole."

The Flashes defense, often saddled with poor field position, gave up 214 yards through the air, allowing Iowa State's quarterback Austen Arnaud to go 12-of-15 passing, with a rushing and passing touchdown.
