The Kent Planning Commission decided to postphone a decision about the potential addition of a Sheetz gas station and convenience store in town until a Sept. 2 meeting.
Six Sheetz representatives came to the meeting Monday night to explain the project and answer questions from the public.
Steve Funk, an Akron-based lawyer for Sheetz, said the store in Kent would utilize a new design that has a "fresher, up-to-date look."
"We think it's going to make this area look attractive," he said.
About 25 Kent city residents came to the hearing to ask questions and voice concerns, primarily about lighting, landscaping, traffic and cosmetics.
Kent resident Andy Esparza said the business could threaten the safety of the neighborhood and the environment.
"A 24-7 business environment leads to crime," he said. "These people just don't get it. They're here for business."
Another resident, Lloyd Atkinson, said he supports Sheetz because it produces income tax.
"It costs Kent nothing," he said.

Why would the residents of kent turn down a chance to creat 30 to 40 new jobs. For the comment of 24/7 leads to crime that is not true i work in a c-store and crime/theft is almost non existant. (Continued…)

Robert, some people are just afraid of change.
Robin, do you have an alternate site for this Sheetz? You seem to have all the answers.

That part of town is already dimly lit, around warehouses that look abandoned.
I can't see how a brightly lit red gas station will increase crime on that street. (Continued…)
