Philosophy speaker to discuss social policy, psychological freedom tonight

David Schmidtz, Kendrick professor of philosophy and joint professor of economics at the University of Arizona will be on campus tonight talking about psychological freedom as a political problem.
Michael Byron, associate professor of philosophy, said he thinks the lecture will be one of interest to students because Schmidtz will be discussing topics that have a bearing on the upcoming presidential election.
"The government and social policies he's going to talk about are topics of concern for presidential candidates, such as whether to encourage greater or lesser government regulation," he said.
Schmidtz's lecture is part of the philosophy department's Veroni Lectures in Philosophy and the Humanities.
The lecture begins at 7 p.m. in the Student Center's Governance Chambers.
It is free and open to the public.
