CCI Commons still has rooms in Olson Hall for fall semester

One residence hall on campus offers students technical help with computers, advising and newly renovated bathrooms.
CCI Commons, a learning community for students in the College of Communication and Information, located in Olson Hall, has open rooms for next year.
CCI Commons coordinator Marianne Warzinski said she can take 100 more people for the 2008-09 school year.
Returning students can register for a room through Residence Services at http://www.res.kent.edu/cr/. New students can register at https://www.res.kent.edu/newapp/.
The commons offers scheduling help, design tables, a computer lab with printers, iMac computers, tutors and technology help. Services and activities that CCI Commons offer include academic advising, tutoring and speakers that work in different jobs found in CCI.
Warzinski said she tries to find speakers who can speak broadly about different majors in CCI. In the past, CCI has had people speak to the students who work in news producing and sportscasting.
Warzinski said she feels students who live here are more informed than students in a regular residence halls because she e-mails the students regularly and because of all of the programs that are offered in the dorm.
Olson Hall has four floors and is comprised of double rooms. The bathrooms were newly remodeled last summer, and Warzinski said that on average, each bathroom is shared between 25 students.
The community consists of students in the schools of Journalism and Mass Communication, Communication Studies, Library and Information Sciences, and Visual Communication Design.
The commons also offers scheduling help to assist students in deciding what classes to take and tech help days to help students with computer problems.
All resident assistants in the hall are CCI majors, so they can also give students guidance on which classes and professors to take.
Freshman pre-communications major Nicolas Wheeler said he enjoys attending the CCI events. He recently attended a session called "A Major Issue." The session brought representatives from each major to discuss what each is about.
Wheeler said the session gave him a clear idea of what he would like to do with his life. He went on to say that he enjoys living in CCI because of the location of the building and the people who live there.
"I like CCI because there are people here with similar interests, and they can give me constructive criticism," he said.
