Kent State students can dust off their cowboy boots and head to Mustang Salliz, Streetsboro's newest country-western dance club, for a night of country line dancing.

Mustang Salliz opened in late December in what used to be Sunset Lanes bowling alley. Owner Scott Thierfelder said he opened the club to fill a void in the area left by the closing of the Boot Scootin' Saloon in Cuyahoga Falls more than five years ago.

"When that closed, that was it for huge nightclubs in the area," Thierfelder said.

The club features a new dance floor as well as a mechanical bull for people to ride. For those that don't know how to dance, Mustang Salliz has a dance instructor to teach the crowd.

Also, Friday night is ladies' night, so women do not have to pay cover, Thierfelder said. The bar also offers a $20 all-you-can-drink special on Thursdays.

Mustang Salliz also has its own house band, Caliber. The band is fronted by vocalist Marcc Nutter, who has toured with Alan Jackson and Randy Travis. The club is also trying to book national musicians to play the venue. Keith Anderson will be playing at Mustang Salliz on February 19. The show is free.

For those who do not like country, Mustang Salliz also brings in a DJ every Thursday night to mix up the type of music that is played.

Thierfelder also said people don't have to worry about safety at Mustang Salliz.

"Our security guards take care of everything," he said.

One change Thierfelder said he is thinking of making is closing Mustang Salliz on Wednesday night because of poor attendance.

"We may shut it down on Wednesday, at least until we get our Thursday night right," he said.

People who go to Mustang Salliz can expect a relaxed atmosphere, Thierfelder said. "It is like one big country party."

Why go all the way to Streetsboro when The Bar'n is right in Kent? They have a bull, it's 18 & over for girls AND guys, plus the cover is cheaper- in fact there's NO cover if you're over 21. (Continued…)

Yea, their should have been some mention of the similarities between this and the Bar'N, considering they both opened around the same time.

Why bother putting this in the paper when it holds no relevance to students who can drive less than a mile to the Bar'N? At least give us some example of what makes them different. (Continued…)
