KSU officers hold fundraiser for cancer victims

Students can buy all the pizza they can eat and win prizes - and all for a good cause - tonight from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at CiCi's Pizza in Streetsboro.
Officers Tricia Snyder and Kelly Given from the Kent State Police Department are sponsoring the fundraiser. They are trying to raise $3,500 each to run in a marathon in January benefiting victims of leukemia and lymphoma. The marathon is sponsored by Team in Training, an organization dedicated to organizing races to benefit leukemia.
Snyder said it costs $5 to eat at CiCi's, but you get all-you-can-eat pizza, salad, breadsticks and dessert. Ten percent of the money taken in at CiCi's during the fundraiser will help Snyder and Given run in the marathon, and that money will ultimately go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Snyder said members of student organizations who attend should write the name of their organization on the back of the receipt. The organization that brings the most people will win a pizza party.
Snyder said a 50/50 raffle and a raffle for four Indians' tickets will also be held.
Snyder said people who run the marathon do so to remember or honor someone who has suffered from leukemia or lymphoma.
"Officer Given is running in memory of her grandmother, who died from leukemia," Snyder said. "I'm running to honor a friend who is a leukemia survivor."
Students interested in purchasing raffle tickets for the Indians' tickets after the fundraiser has ended can do so until Dec. 9 by calling the Kent State Police Department at (330) 672-3070 and asking for Officer Snyder.

Kudos Kelley! Ditto Officer Snyder!
Um, Mr. Gareau? Might there be any way that more advance notice of such worthy causes be provided through the Kent Stater? I mean, some of us are not neciessarrily the carefree, party-going college students you might think we are, eh?
OOOPS! Never mind!
Seriously, folks, if we want to meld any different constituencies into one village as far as such philanthropic endeavors are concerned. (Continued…)
