With eleven bouts on the card Friday night at West Side Boxing Club in Cleveland, all the fights were between men except for one.

Kent State freshman Monique Mullet battled Suzi Manning, a member of GriffonRawl Academy, to a three-round decision in front of a crowd that was seemingly behind Mullett.

At the sound of the bell, after arguably the most intense bout of the night, it was Manning's arm that was raised, and she walked away with the victory.

The crowd of mostly families and friends of the fighters was dancing and hollering when the music was playing, but what really got it up on its feet was the female championship bout between Mullet and Manning, it was Mullett's first bout at the Friday Night Fights.

"I feel like I was robbed: I thought I did good…," Mullet said after the fight. She will have a rematch against Manning on Oct. 25th, and she says she will be ready for their second bout.

Mullet's boxing club, Pound-4-Pound Boxing club in Ravenna, also had two other boxers compete on Friday night. Bronson Ebong finished with a win by walk away, and Jerry Soletro was out-sparred in a very close fight.

Kent State junior Darrell Pierce, also of Pound-4-Pound, wasn't able to fight because he did not have his passbook, which is the required paperwork needed to compete.

The Friday Night Fights also included featherweight fights between youths.

"These kids start boxing at eight, and for them this is not a game, this is serious," said Pound-4-Pound trainer said Charlie Duniser .

I observed the fight and it was a well fought battle by both. As a former fighter I observed the mistakes by both also. Both of these fighters deserve accolades for getting in the ring. (Continued…)
