The provost's office has not found a replacement for Honors College Dean Larry Andrews, who is retiring this year.

The search committee for the new Honors dean brought four candidates to Kent State this spring after a national search and submitted its recommendation to Provost Paul Gaston.

However, no permanent appointment was made.

Mark Weber, chairman of the search committee, said he could not discuss the recommended candidate and the reasons for the provost's decision and would make no further comment. Gaston could not be reached for comment because he was out of town.

Andrews said there can be many obstacles to finding a replacement for an administrative position. As an example, he mentioned how two of the candidates for provost withdrew themselves from the search.

The provost's office will be accepting nominations for an interim dean until July 15, with the possibility of the position becoming permanent.

Andrews said the interim dean will be someone from within the university.
