A Kent State student was killed late Sunday morning in a car accident on I-480.

April A. Kenniebrew, 21, a freshman pre-journalism major of Cleveland Heights, and another woman were standing near the 33-mile marker, receiving help from a tow truck for a flat tire when the accident occurred, university spokesman Scott Rainone said.

According to a report from the Akron Beacon Journal, the other woman involved was Marcee A. Jones, 45, of Kent.

Rainone said a car driver lost control and struck Kenniebrew and Jones, killing them both.

The car that struck Kenniebrew and Jones had Georgia plates and was carrying six passengers, according to a report from Fox 8 News. These individuals were reported to be a mother, father and four children.

Kevin Freeman, a reporter from Fox 8 News, said the mother was not injured, and the five other passengers were sent to the hospital. Two, including the father, have already been released, but their status and names are unknown.

Freeman said the tow truck driver, David Johnston, of Lakewood, was not injured.
