Music showcase aims to entertain

Most campus-related entertainment events aim to do one thing: entertain students. However, every once in a while, an event's purpose is to provide a learning experience for all those involved.
Got to Believe Records, Kent State's record promotions class, is showcasing its first group of artists tomorrow.
Professor Gene Shelton, who also worked with Motown Records, created the class in order to provide students with realistic scenarios in the records promotion business.
Junior English major Willie Johnson, who helps with publicity, said there are a lot of talented musicians and bands in the Kent area, but they have trouble getting much-needed exposure.
Tomorrow's showcase will feature a mixture of hip-hop and rock music. The acts include Micah-La, Brandon Bishop, A Grand Design and Goose.
The event will be held at the Robin Hood, located at 503 East Main St. in Kent. The doors open at 9 p.m. Admission is $5.
